Workout | P90X Plyometrics Status: Completed Oh man, plyometrics is back and it's here to kick my ass! I've been doing plyocide for the last few weeks, and as great of a workout it is, nothing beats plyo x! This thing destroyed me today, especially with the weight vest on. My jumps were definitely not as good as a few weeks ago, but part of that was probably the early morning (and the heater in the garage broke). Regardless, I felt wrecked in the best possible way when this workout was over; completely soaked! Phase 3 is moving along nicely. Bring it! |

Day: 58, P90X Plyometrics
Sunday, January 30, 2011
Day: 57, P90X Chest and Back
Log Entry | Daily Note: Just a quick note that I skipped a yoga workout on Friday. I have no excuse, other than I woke up and decided two hours of sleep was what I needed. I had a lot of homework that night and Saturday I just needed the day off. Again, no excuses, but I missed the workout and I'm accepting it. It won't happen again, at least not for a long long while. |
Workout | P90X Chest and Back Status: Completed Welcome back Chest & Back! I love this workout because it always gets my blood flowing. Resistance workout at its best. I was really having trouble moving today, but I got through today's workout and despite being pretty tired I rocked out a great workout. My numbers went down a tiny bit from Week 3, but I know I pushed myself to my limit and it feels good. My pullup numbers dropped overall, but I was able to do real ones on every exercise, including the second round. The next time I do this workout will be the last time! Round 2 of P90X is flying by! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed I had a week off from ab ripper, and I'm really glad to have it back! I had a little trouble getting back into it, and the moves were a little hard to do all 25 of. I even got really worked during the leg climbs and side rises, two that I'm usually pretty strong on. I got through it, pushed myself really hard and as always rocked out all 50 mason twists. Awesome workout! |
Workout | Martial Arts Status: Completed I had an extra burst of energy a few hours after ab ripper, and I decided to do another Muay Thai class. I worked an hour of kicks using the Bas Rutten DVD, and even though it wasn't the most strenuous workout the kicks really got my legs a good workout. The head kicks especially work the thighs. Just wanted to document this workout. Week 9 and Phase 3 are off to a great start. Bring it! |

Day: 54, P90X Core Synergistics
Log Entry | Daily Note: Quick note, Jay is awake! Haven't seen him yet, but his family let us all know last night. More news to come. Glad to hear you're back with us Jay! |
Workout | P90X Core Synergistics Status: Completed Core is done for the day! Great workout, and a great way to start my day. Not feeling like blogging much today, so I'm making this short. Next time I see core it'll be in the final week. Bring it! |

Day: 53, P90X X Stretch
Log Entry | Daily Note: Not workout related, but my buddy Jay is in the hospital and I want to wish him a speedy recovery. He had a seizure in his cousins car yesterday, and they've had to keep him sedated since. He's in ICU and they sound optimistic, but I really haven't heard what happened at all. Jay's one of my best friends, so I'm rooting for him. Heading to the hospital to check on him now that my workout is done, but wanted to make a note on the blog. Feel better buddy! We need you! |
Workout | P90X X Stretch Status: Completed I'm all stretched out and feeling great. My body was actually hurting a lot when I woke up this morning, especially my back, so I was looking forward to the stretch and it did not disappoint. For some reason I never do this on Saturdays when I'm supposed to (or at least recommended to) but I never miss it during recovery week. With that track record, the next time I do this workout I'll be knee deep in the final week of my second round of P90X. Just a quick note, during the Dreya Forearm stretch, I always laugh when Tony sticks his hands straight out in front of him and squeezes his fingers and says "pretend you're squeezing whatever you want". Ha! Good times. Halfway through Week 8. Bring it! |

Day: 52, P90X Kenpo X
Workout | P90X Kenpo X Status: Completed Pretty decent Kenpo X today. I threw some strong punches, and using the bag always wears me out. Two days ago I did a pretty intense Muay Thai workout, and yesterday I hit the bag for a little while after Core. One of those I probably shouldn't have done, because as soon as the punching portion of today's workout was over my body lost a ton of energy and my punching muscles especially got really sore and tired put of nowhere. I still got through the rest of the workout and kept pretty good form, but it definitely wasn't as strong as the first few minutes. I'm still sweaty and feeling good, so like I said, today was a pretty decent kenpo day. Week 8 is progressing well, and I'm looking forward to stretch tomorrow. Bring it! |

Day: 51, P90X Core Synergistics
Workout | P90X Core Synergistics Status: Completed Great Core workout today. I always forget how great this workout is, and tonight was pretty awesome. The arm stuff is great, and I upped my weight from a few weeks ago on almost everything. One of my favorites in this is definitely the steam engines too. Those are some amazing cardio and ab moves! Great workout and the recovery week is off to a great start! Bring it! |
Workout | P90X Yoga: MC2 Status: Completed I decided to get up early and make up my Yoga: MC2 workout from yesterday. I was exhausted and it definitely showed in my workout, but I still got through it and it's great way to start the day. Namaste. |

Day: 50, Calories: 0, Martial Arts
Workout | Martial Arts Status: Completed Today is the first day of a recovery week, and it's supposed to be a yoga day. I had to do homework all day, so my morning was shot, and then I got talked into a big lunch which got me into a nap. Long story short, by 5pm I still hadn't done yoga and had lost my entire drive. However, Mark came home and said he was going to do one of the Duke Roufus Muay Thai lessons, and I decided to do that instead. It turned into an hour long upper body muay Thai class, focusing on all of the standard punches. This got my blood flowing, and I really got to work on some good technique in my punches, especially my footwork. When that was over, Mark said he'd never done the Bas Rutten CDs, and I needed to end on a strong note, so we popped in the Thai Boxing CD and did 4 rounds. We each got 2 rounds of shadow boxing and 2 rounds of the bag, and by the end we were both destroyed. It was a great end, especially since I got to work in the things I worked on in the Duke Roufis disk. Not yoga, but a good workout. I'm supposed to get up early to do Core tomorrow, but I might do yoga in the morning and core at night. It'll be a game time call. Bring it! |

Day: 48, P90X Kenpo X
Workout | P90X Kenpo X Status: Completed It wasn't pretty, but kenpo x is done. I was really tired this morning, but since I won't be able to work out tonight I had to get up early and hit play. I'm sore, tired, and my thumb has a cut on it that's making it hard to make a fist this morning, so the bag was definitely out. I still threw some decent punches in the air, but my kicks were pretty lame. To be fair, they are still lightyears ahead of where I was when I started, but I know I can do better. I still finished the workout and was definitely sweaty (not as soaked as normal though), so today is definitely a victory. Week 7 is wrapped up, and a recovery week is next week! I'm looking forward to the extra yoga and stretch days. My body is definitely feeling P90X lately. Bring it! |
Thursday, January 20, 2011
Day: 47, P90X Base & Back
Workout | P90X Base & Back Status: Completed Base and Back is completed for the day, and I am feeling pretty damn good. I woke up this morning and did not want to work out at all. I finally hit play and got to work after moping around the kitchen for fifteen minutes. I definitely took it a little easier than normal today, but my jumps were still quality jumps and my pullups were pretty strong. Mostly I slacked on my numbers. I did crank out all 30 fighter spin jumps, because those things are awesome. Random comment, but jack in the box knee tucks are one of the hardest exercises in all of P90X. I'm glad I get a week off from base and back next week. In the final phase I think I'm going to add the weight vest too. I'll keep you posted! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed Not my best ab ripper, but not terrible either. The first half I was pretty drained from base and back, but by the fifer scissors I was getting into it. As always, all 50 mason twists have been completed. Only one more day in Week 7, and it's kenpo! Then I'm on to the second recovery week, and moving into Phase 3! Round 2 is flying by! Bring it! |

Day: 46, P90X Yoga: MC2
Workout | P90X Yoga: MC2 Status: Completed Awesome Yoga day! I really needed the stretch since my body was feeling a little rough today, but once I got moving I felt great. The big highlight of the day was my half moons, which I could hold for several seconds! All of them! It was awesome. My twisting half moons felt stronger too, and I have Warrior 3 pretty much down solid! Great yoga day. Namaste! |

Day: 45, P90X Back & Biceps
Log Entry | Daily Note: Today is Day 45, the halfway point of this round of P90X. It really does fly by once you get into it. This round I've seen huge improvements, and I can't wait to see where I'm at in another 45 days! |
Workout | P90X Back & Biceps Status: Completed I really didn't want to work out this morning, or do anything for that matter, but I hit play around 6:20 and brought it pretty well today. My pullups didn't feel as strong as normal, but my biceps were rocking. I added some weight to a few of the exercises too. Making progress! No more Back and Biceps until the second week of phase 3. That's really only about three weeks from now, but it feels like a long time when I talk in phases. |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed Ab ripper is done today. I really had trouble focusing today, but overall this ab ripper was a lot stronger than Sunday's, so good work! Halfway done with this round of P90X. Only 45 days until Insanity! Bring it! |
Monday, January 17, 2011
Day: 44, P90X Plyocide
Workout | P90X Plyocide Status: Completed I attempted Plyocide with the weight vest, and man oh man did it beat me up today! I got through the whole thing, but it wasn't pretty. The jump off the box and do a big jump holding weights exercise (no clue what it's called) absolutely destroyed me! Everything where you hold a weight or medicine ball was so much harder! Even the flying through the air stuff was just incredibly hard. But I made it through, and my numbers weren't too far off from last week. Looks like Phase 3 will be all weight vest for the two plyometric workouts! More great progress in Week 7! Bring it! |
Sunday, January 16, 2011
Day: 43, P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris
Workout | P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris Status: Completed My shoulders are spent! Truth be told, my chest, shoulders and triceps are all feeling pretty taxed, but my shoulders took a beating today! Great workout, even though it's Sunday and I did have to pug myself to get moving. I love working out my arms, and this is an awesome workout. The fly pushups are awesome, the pike presses are great and the slow and fast pushups are excellent! The next time I see this workout I'll be midway through the final phase of my second round of P90X! See you in a few weeks Chest, Shoulders and Triceps! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed I was pretty beat after the arm workout, but I pushed myself through and had a decent ab ripper. The first half was really difficult today, and my hips were really hurting, but by the hip rock stuff I was definitely in my zone. V up rollups were solid, oblique v ups were really strong and as always all 50 mason twists were done! Week 7 of Round 2 is off to a great start! Bring it! |
Friday, January 14, 2011
Day: 41, P90X Kenpo X
Workout | P90X Kenpo X Status: Completed Week 6 is in the books, and I just finished an excellent Kenpo X workout! Last night ended up being a really weird night and I didn't get much sleep. As a result, I didn't get to do Kenpo this morning like I'd planned. Fortunately Mark, the roommate, has started P90X and we are both on Kenpo today. I've never done P90X with a friend before, and it really makes you work hard. Way hard! I threw some awesome punches and kicks and we both did all of the X Times during the breaks. We also switched off on using the bag, and I've still gotta say Kenpo X with a punching bag is brutal! Doing the 100+ punches at the end on that thing destroys your arms! One more week of phase 2 and then a recovery week! Bring it! |
Thursday, January 13, 2011
Day: 40, P90X Base & Back
Workout | P90X Base & Back Status: Completed Another round of Base and Back is in the books, and I feel great! The gym (garage) was really freezing today, I was bundled up in the hoodie and I was very sleepy, but I worked my way through the stretch with Tony and then hit the ground running when we got to the actual workout. My pullups were strong, and my jumps destroyed my legs. The second half I was definitely losing some steam, but I was still able to rock out some reps on everything, even towards the end. When I take the really long breaks out, this DVD destroys me in the absolute best way! Excellent! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Not Complete My DVD player crapper out halfway through ab ripper, and I had to get my laptop to do the second half. This completely threw off my rhythm, so I don't know how to judge today's ab ripper. I had extra energy thanks to the break in the middle, but I don't like taking a break during ab ripper. I did make it through the whole thing, including 50 mason twists again, so it's still a pretty good thing. Glad my workout is out of the way! One more day in Week 6 and it's Kenpo! I'm finally starting to feel better after last week's cold, and am determined to end this week on a good note! Bring it! |

Day: 39, P90X Yoga: MC2
Log Entry | Daily Note: Off topic, but I ordered George St. Pierre's RushFit program, and it arrived yesterday. It's an 8 week home workout program based around mixed martial arts. I know it's not a BeachBody product, but I'm 90% sure this is the workout program I will be doing after Insanity. Obviously I have a while until then, but I thought I'd throw it on the blog. It looks like an awesome program. I'll keep everyone posted! |
Workout | P90X Yoga: MC2 Status: Completed Another round of Yoga: MC2 is in the books! I got an amazing stretch today, and I felt much stronger on today's yoga than any in the last few weeks. The weird thing is I didn't sweat nearly as much today, but I definitely got a good workout. Yoga is an amazing way to start the day! Namaste. |
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Day: 38, P90X Back & Biceps
Workout | P90X Back & Biceps Status: Completed Back and Biceps is in the books and I feel pretty good! I took it a little easier today because I'm still feeling a lot of sinus pressure, and I was working out right as I woke up, but in general today was a pretty solid workout. It was really cold in the gym (garage) today and I actually had the heater on the whole time. Usually I turn it off after a little while, but not today. I even wore a hoodie, which is an extreme last resort for me usually. It needs to warm up! I'm not a fan of the winter months at all! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed That was a pretty solid ab ripper. Like back and biceps, I did take it a little easier since I'm still a little sick, but overall still a very good ab ripper. I felt strong on almost all of the exercises, and 50 mason twists have once again been completed! Week 6 is halfway through, and I'm starting to be done with this cold! Yoga tomorrow and I am going to take it on full force! Bring it! |
Monday, January 10, 2011
Day: 37, P90X Plyocide
Workout | P90X Plyocide Status: Completed Being sick isn't any fun, but I managed to push through plyocide today. It wasn't pretty, but I broke a good sweat and tried to make improvements where I could. My sinuses are destroyed today, and cardio was the last thing I wanted to do, so I'm still calling this a victory. Hoping to feel a lot better tomorrow for back and biceps. Wish me luck! Bring it! |

Day: 36, P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris
Log Entry | Daily Note: Just wanted to give a shout out to a few friends starting P90X! Friends Anthony and Vanessa are each a week in, and Mark is starting today. I think there's a few more planning on getting going in the next month, and I'll give them shoutouts as soon as they do! Great job folks! It's the best decision you've ever made! |
Workout | P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris Status: Completed I'm still not at 100% from the cold, but I mustered up the strength to hit play today and ended up with a pretty decent chest shoulders and triceps workout. The triceps felt a little more rough than normal, but the pushups were pretty strong and the shoulders were really strong. The best was the arm circles! I rocked those out really well, and my shoulders felt amazing! Despite being sick, I had a pretty good arm workout. |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed Being sick didn't help, and I gave everything I had to the arm workout, but I got through ab ripper. Stronger than round 1, but not my strongest. Considering the long weekend and I'd just driven back from LA, I'm still happy with the results. And 50 mason twists completed again. Week 6 is off to a solid start. Bring it! |
Friday, January 7, 2011
Day: 34, P90X Kenpo X
Workout | P90X Kenpo X Status: Completed Well it finally happened....I have a cold. I figured somewhere in my P90X journey this was going to happen, and I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I decided this morning when I woke up that kenpo x just wasn't gonna happen, and decided to stay on the couch until it was time to drive to LA. I decided I'd just switch kenpo with rest day tomorrow. I drank cough medicine and airborne along the trip, and when we got to the hotel I had a little more of each. I found some down time and decided to bite the bullet and hit play. It wasn't pretty and I could barely move during the breaks, but I pushed through and kenpo x is completed! Hopefully I feel better by the time Sunday arrives, but at least tomorrow I can get better! Being sick is no fun! Week 5 is completed, and sick or not I'm here to stay! Bring it! |

Day: 33, P90X Base & Back
Workout | P90X Base & Back Status: Completed Wow, Base and Back destroyed me tonight. I pushed myself so hard through the first five that the second five were the hardest I've ever done. As soon as I got to the Repeat I felt completely spent. I pushed myself through though after taking a few sips of water. It helps that Tony takes a really long break in the middle, even though I actually skipped some of it with fast forward. The second half was extremely strong, or at least as strong as I possibly could. That all said, this was my strongest Base and Back by leaps and bounds (pun totally intended). My legs really felt like they got a leg workout, my back is completely beat up (especially after back and biceps just two days ago) and my body felt like it had just finished a marathon! Awesome progress! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed Excellent ab ripper tonight. Not on par with Sunday's, but a million times better than Tuesday. I rocked out almost 25 reps on everything, and the only thing that held me back was the fact that my legs and lower back were killing me. Considering I'd just finished Base and Back, that makes sense. And as always, all 50 mason twists have been completed FOR THE WEEK! Awesome stuff this round. Just one more day in Week 5, and it's Kenpo X. After that I'm driving out to California for my cousin's bar mitzvah. The P90X DVDs and the bands are coming with me. I'm not sure if I'll need to do any workouts on the road, but I'm glad I'm gonna be prepared. Bring it! |

Day: 32, P90X Yoga: MC2
Workout | P90X Yoga: MC2 Status: Completed I love starting the day with yoga, and today was no exception. My body just feels so much better! My lower back still felt a little rough this morning, so I did take it a little easy throughout the workout, but by the end I was feeling almost back to normal and was rocking out the poses. I'm making huge strides on Yoga: MC2 and I love it! Just a few more days in Week 5! Namaste. |

Day: 31, P90X Back & Biceps
Log Entry | Daily Note: Took the Day 30 (120) pics and measurements this morning. Weights only one pound less than Day 90, but considering I'm coming off of the holidays I'm ok with that. The pictures look great though. I'd even go as far as saying a lot better than Day 90, and I was pretty stoked about those pics! I'm gonna wait until Day 180 to post any more pics, just like last time, but I'm pretty happy with the progress this round! |
Workout | P90X Back & Biceps Status: Completed Tonight's workout started rough. It was ice cold in the garage, and the heater took forever to get the place warm, so the first ten minutes were painful. Cold also gives me a headache, and today was no exception. Twenty minutes into it and one Excedrin as well, and I finished on a pretty strong note. My bicep numbers were all the same from Phase 3 of Round 1, and I actually rocked out a pretty solid number of actual pullups. My total gym pullup numbers went down a little, ya, but considering the real ones existed it completely makes up for it. One weird thing, my lower back started to really hurt right around the chin ups. I took it easy from there on out so I wouldn't hurt myself, but the supermans at the end pretty much couldn't happen. I'm going to stretch tomorrow and hopefully it feels better. Glad to have this workout in my routine again for another few weeks; I can't wait to see how my numbers increase! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed I don't know if it was the Excedrin, the fact that I pushed myself too hard in Back and Biceps or if it was just a long day and I was starving, but I was dizzy as Hell during this ab ripper, and it definitely showed in the final product. I had to take a lot more breaks than usual, and especially after the awesome ab ripper I had two days ago, I was pretty bummed I couldn't do as well today. Also my lower back started feeling a little rough, just like in Back and Biceps, and that made a few of the exercises a little rough. The side rises towards the end were really rough! That all said, I still did all 50 of the mason twists again; I still haven't missed that this whole round! I'm exhausted and ready for a night of Mesquite chicken from Fresh and Easy, video games and a whole lot of couch! Yoga tomorrow and I really hope that helps my lower back out. I really need a stretch! Bring it! |

Day: 30, P90X Plyocide
Log Entry | Daily Note: Today is Day 30, or technically Day 120. Huge progress, but I'm actually going to take my pictures and measurements in the morning. Awesome progress so far! |
Workout | P90X Plyocide Status: Completed Well, I've finally done Plyocide, and I've gotta say that this thing is a killer! Almost every exercise is an entire minute, and that really works the endurance since the original plyo was mostly 30 second drills. The jumping around the jump rope stuff is pretty awesome, and I really love all of the jumping with weights stuff. There's even a few medicine ball workouts, which I've never ever used before, so that's all pretty cool. I will say that Tony takes a lot longer breaks than I want. I think part of that is he's definitely going a few more seconds than I am. Fast forward helped me keep my heart rate up, but I have a feeling that as I get better, I'm going to need longer breaks. Tony has a black eye in this video by the way. He never says why. Just wanted to point that out. This workout is hard, but not as impossible as I thought it would be. I'm adding my goal from round 1 to this, and by the time this round is over I will be able to do the whole workout with the weight vest on. Bring it! |
Sunday, January 2, 2011
Day: 29, P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris
Workout | P90X Chest, Shoulders & Tris Status: Completed Wow, amazing workout day and an amazing workout is on this disc! I haven't done Chest Shoulders and Tri's since Week 12 of Round 1, and I forgot how awesome this routine is. As soon as I got started moving I felt so much better than I have all weekend. The New Year's party two days ago destroyed me, and I wasn't fully recovered even today, two days later. But I pushed play and just got super pumped through the whole thing. Not many of my numbers went up, but none of them went down so that's awesome. And I forgot that the Pike Pushups were in this routine, which means I do pike's every single lifting week (they're also in shoulders and arms: mc2, which I did in phase 1). These are the most killer exercise for the shoulders in the whole program, and I'm convinced I get the best results from them. Very cool! Excellent way to start Week 5! I can't wait to see how my numbers progress on this disc in the next few weeks! |
Workout | P90X Ab Ripper Status: Completed I feel like I say this after a lot of ab ripper, but this was definitely my best ab ripper yet! I pumped out 25 of everything, aside from a few single rep breaks. Every rep I did just felt so strong too! I even got a week off from ab ripper last week, so I'm really impressed I could jump right back in to it. Week 5 is off to a great start. Phase 2 is off to a great start. 2011 is off to a great start. Tomorrow is Day 30, or actually Day 120, so pictures will be taken. I am ready to keep making big changes! Bring it! |
